Zimbabwe

After an interesting border crossing which took a little over three hours, we finally entered Zimbabwe!

We never plan anything else on the day we cross a border, as we never know how long the whole procedure will take.

This time we had to get a third-party-liability insurance at the border, which took us longer than we hoped for. Luckily we have the most patient kids we could wish for!

We found a small campsite for the night and asked the owners whether load-shedding was a thing in Zimbabwe as well. The answer? There is no power from 6am till 10pm and during the night it sometimes goes off too!

We drove to Matobo Hills National Park, where we once again were the only guests at the campsite. At the reception, they told us we could pick any of the 8 camping spots... Well, spot 6 and 7 were taken.... by a group of giraffes!

We had the most amazing view from our spot and enjoyed the campsite a lot.

The game reserve we stayed at was a beautiful area in between high granite hills and big rocks. We had a close-up view of some, maybe not so rare, but still very special animals.

Each day we got at least one downpour. We normally could tell when it would start raining, but sometimes we got caught in one. Luckily we had a large lapa next to our spot where we spent our time while it rained.

It is the rainy season at the moment and everything is very green. We are not complaining; mostly the rain also brings cooler temperatures.

It was a great spot to spend a few days and enjoy the animal close-ups.
