VIP Bus

It has been wonderful to finally tell our friends and family about our plans. For years, John and I walked around with the ideas and since May, Myron and Raija know about it. Poor Myron, he was bursting with excitement and was not allowed to tell anyone yet. For Raija it all started to make sense when we moved and the new campervan arrived.

At the end of the summer, when the dream started to take shape, we began telling people. It is really heartwarming to see the enthusiasm of others and the excitement for what we are hoping to do.

"What amazing!"

"That's my dream!"

"Not for me, but good for you!"

"No school for the kids for a year, who wouldn't want that?!"

"Can I come?; I can be the kids' teacher!"

We have had multiple offers for live-in nannies, cooks, teachers, auto repairman, or just plain good company. Initially we jokingly said they could sit on the back bed but soon the joke became that we would have a VIP bus following us. Seat arrangements are being made by many, lol!

As this trip will not be one where we take friends and family along, we have decided to create a website where our adventures can be followed. And that is when this website, www.downrightadventurous.com was born!

Why downright adventurous? Because we feel very adventurous! In a world where so much is predictable, planned, and scheduled, uprooting our life to follow our dreams feels pretty adventurous.

And we like to read downright also as Down-right as we hope we can do right by our girl with Down Syndrome. We hope this trip will be as memorable and amazing for her as it will be for Myron and us. We hope we can find activities that she really likes and culinary scenes that tailor to her special diet.

There is no doubt that we will create an amazing time for the four of us, as there is nothing that makes us happier than traveling together. Our kids have always benefitted from our urge to explore and travel to nearby and far-away places . We have travelled with them in every province in Canada (just not the Territories yet) and they have seen a large part of the United States. They have played with kids on the great Wall of China, they held a koala and fed kangaroos in Australia, and they met most of the family in different European countries. We totally believe it has helped making them into these two beautiful human beings, full of confidence and acceptance of others.

This time around we hope to find something new during our travels. We really hope to unplug, find a sense of freedom, spend time with family, make new friends, learn about different cultures, awaken our senses, and truly immerse ourselves in the beauty of this world.

China 2016

Australia 2019

Our hope is that this website and our stories will inspire you to follow your dreams, whatever they may be, big or small.

So, please hop on the virtual VIP bus if you are up for it and we will take you on our adventure!
