We are always drawn to the coast, no matter where we are, so we stopped in Dover, famous for its white cliffs. While Myron and John made a long walk to the light house, Raija and I enjoyed some girls' time and a lovely conversation with a couple we met.

We continued along the coast and ended up in Newhaven.

These two pictures stand for a day that did not turn out the way we all hoped it would be...

Myron got the opportunity to sail with the Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club. Through my cousin, he was brought in contact with Michiel, who sails a catamaran here.

We got up early to get ready for what was supposed to be a great day for all. Then John took a misstep and popped his shoulder again... It had not healed enough... I sent him off in a taxi to the nearest emergency room, as we all did not want Myron to miss his sailing opportunity... Poor John :(

We packed up our campervan and got to the sailing club and found the group that was having the race that morning. Super friendly people but disappointed looks... the waves were too high and the wind was too weak... it was not safe to go out. Leaving off a beach in the English Channel is a little different than sailing on a lake...

A disappointed son, a husband with his arm back in a sling, a daughter who saw her beach day go up in smoke, me worried about the weeks to come...

A good night's sleep does wonders and the next day we all felt a lot better.

We took the ferry from New Haven to Dieppe in France. It was a good time to catch up on some schoolwork and to make a plan for the last days in Europe.
