Sossusvlei

We said goodbye to our friends in Windhoek and drove toward Sossusvlei. It was a beautiful winding road and we camped the night in Solitaire.

We continued our drive to the entrance of the Namib-Naukluft Park, in which Sossusvlei is situated.

It was again a hot day and the private shelter with our own washing up station was almost a necessity to survive camping in the desert.

We were excited to see the red dunes that surround the Sossusvlei, which is a salt and clay pan. And seeing oryxes made it even more special, they are such graceful animals.

It was absolutely a spectacular place to be. We made a nice walk to Deadvlei where dead camel thorn trees are a reminder of the river Tsauchab that once flowed here.

Luckily there were some other trees in the area, outside Deadvlei, that provided the much needed shade for having a lunch.

Sossusvlei was amazing!
