Skeleton Coast National Park

We continued our journey with Sylvia and Friedwart, and drove westward toward Skeleton Coast National Park. We camped at the 'campsite' next to the entrance of the National Park.

Driving toward the coast was a very special feeling. We had been in the desert for over a week by now and could not imagine a large body of water. Well, the coast did not disappoint!

The beaches of this remote area in the northwest of Namibia were littered with shipwrecks and whale bones. It was very surreal to drive on the salt road south with the ocean on the right and the desert on the left!

John was happy to find a bay named after him ;)

We ended our coastal drive in Swakopmund, a city established by German colonists in 1892. We stayed a few nights at the Desert Sky Backpackers Lodge and Campsite. It was nicely situated within walking distance of the city centre and we enjoyed being able to walk everywhere.

It was another great trip with our friends!
