On our way!

After a year of preparations, weeks of packing and organizing, and final goodbyes, we are now officially on our way!

First of all, we want to give a big shout out to our friends Darcy and Tammy, and their daughter Sam, for letting us stay with them for the last few days. It was a blessing to have a home to come to while we packed up ours. We had a great time together with lovely meals and lots of laughter. And their dog Josie? Absolutely the sweetest dog in Winnipeg and surroundings!

Darcy has also been the one who has helped John with multiple modifications in our campervan, from a leg for our table, to a ledge that will prevent Raija from falling out of her bed, to multiple custom build shelves in our cabinets. If anyone in the Winnipeg area is looking for custom woodwork to be done, we know the guy to do it!

And so we left, this morning, from Winnipeg with a temperature around -20°C. We had hoped for warmer weather, but Mother Nature did not cooperate. The few spring days we recently had are a distant memory.

The stretch to Thunder Bay is about 720km long and we have driven it multiple times. The last time was three months ago when we drove to London ON. We rather had driven a shorter length but there really isn't much between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay.

Tonight we stay in a hotel, as the weather in Thunder Bay is slightly warmer with -14°C, but that is still too cold for us to sleep in our campervan. It is just not built for these temperatures.

Just east of Winnipeg is the longitudinal centre of Canada situated. We have about half of the country to cross!

To be honest, it has not sunk in that we really have left. I am not sure what is needed, but it just feels like another road trip so far. We are all pretty tired from everything that happened in the last few weeks. It is good we have a week to drive to Halifax, it will give us the time to adjust, sleep, and re-energize. Soon more!
