Halifax!

We did it! After about 3700 km we are in Halifax and we are feeling good.

Lots has happened, and here is a bit of an overview.

But before I head into posting pictures, I like to point out a few things about our website:

It is possible to become a member, which gives you the benefit of getting a message when a new blog is posted. It also makes it easier for us to see who comments or sends us a chat. If you are not a member and you do not add a name, we see "Visitor#xxx has sent you a message". If you like us to respond in some sort of way, please add your name, initials or some other hint, which lets us know who you are. We love to hear from you!

We have a lot of people following us, for which we feel very honoured. However, it does make me feel very responsible for what I write, as our audience is very broad and friends and family from all over the world are tuning in. And by no means am I a professional blogger, nor do I want to be one. The intend of our website is for us to log our travels and for you to enjoy it!

Our first stop was in Thunder Bay, where we took a moment to reflect on the incredible journey of Terry Fox, who was forced to stop his Marathon of Hope right around here.

You might not know it, but we are collectors of pictures with "big things". This is in Beardmore, ON.

Our kids have always travelled with us and are used to driving long distances. A day under 500km is a short trip according to them ;) Here they are plotting our map.

We spent a night in Rivière-du-Loup, QC. It is beautifully located along the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River. The view was just stunning.

Every night during this trip we slept in an hotel. It was totally not what we wanted but we either had snow, cold nights, or the weather was too unpredictable. We also did not want to risk getting our pop-up tent wet, as there would be no opportunity to totally dry it before shipping.

The children did not mind the hotels, especially the ones with a pool were a hit ;)

Yesterday, we had the chance to spend a bit of time in Halifax centre. We walked up the hill to the Citadel National Historic Site, where we learned about the significance of this place, and we enjoyed the view while being there.

Today was a big day as we brought Kleintje, our campervan, to the harbour and cleared it through customs. It was super cool to be in the harbour and we had a chance to see the offloading of a ship while we waited for our turn. The people were super friendly and they promised to take good care of Kleintje until it boards the vessel on April 11, or earlier, if they can make up for lost time. We see Kleintje again in Hamburg, Germany, in a few weeks.

It is close to 10pm, the backpacks are packed, the kids are fast asleep, and we will soon follow suit. Tomorrow is a long day as we fly from Halifax to Toronto and then to Amsterdam. If all goes well, we should be back in our home country early Wednesday morning. We can't wait!

I finally got onto your blog. Looks great. You missed a big snow storm here. We are buried in tons of snow again. I hope the Van made it ok. Donna and Charlie
