Five Weeks

Updated: Feb 25, 2023

Thank you to all who have donated to our fundraiser so far. We really appreciate your contribution! And to those who have not, we appreciate you checking out our website and increasing the hits on my blog, but we really hoped you would consider a donation. We realize life is getting more expensive for everyone, but if you would travel in Africa like we do, you would realize we still are very privileged and we have so much more than so many others across the globe. Maybe forgo your double double caramel latte at Starbucks today and donate the amount to our fundraiser?

Please reconsider! https://gofund.me/496c353c

If you are unsure on how to donate in Euro's and what it means for you if you do, please click on the following link, it really is not rocket science! https://support.gofundme.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001992827-How-to-make-a-donation#:~:text=You%20can%20donate%20to%20a,you're%20making%20your%20donation.

When we left Kruger National Park, it took us a while to get used to the hectic life of every day. We decided to stay on this beautiful campsite for a few days to catch up on laundry, emails, and grocery shopping. It was the time when mopane worms were all around. To us a cute caterpillar nibbling the leaves of the mopane tree, to the locals a true delicacy. Early in the morning, the workers of the campsite would collect all worms they could find. When we asked them what they would do with them, they told us they would squeeze the intestines out, dry the worms in the sun, and then fry them. Best eaten with fried onion and tomatoes! We never got to try them; we left before the worms had dried out enough. We will never know what they tasted like.

We drove toward the Botswanan border. At the last campsite in South Africa, in Tomburke, a preschool graduation was just wrapping up. The first mom asked for a picture of Raija and her kid, and soon all moms wanted pictures with our children. It was such a happy group of people.

We are wrapping up five weeks of South Africa; a beautiful country with a diverse landscape, amazing wildlife, a complicated political situation; and friendly people.

Botswana, here we come!
