Christmas in Caprivi

A few days before Christmas we arrived in Namibia. The Caprivi Strip, or Caprivi, is in the northeastern corner of Namibia. It is a popular area for Southern Africans to spend Christmas and so we were very happy when we found a vacant camping spot, at Nunda Resort, where we could stay for the week.

It was a very unique experience to celebrate Christmas in the heat. On average it was 35°C. We spent the days reading books, colouring, trying to make a popcorn batch, and playing Uno and Qwixx at the bar, looking out over the Cubango River, where we sometimes spotted hippos.

We had brought two small Christmas decorations with us that stood on our dashboard; a 3 cm high Christmas tree that is very special to us and a 3 cm wide nativity scene that we bought in the cathedral in Ely, England, originating from Bethlehem.

We met a lovely Swiss couple with whom we shared a Christmas Eve's dinner.

To top of the relaxed days, Santa brought us a small wooden hippo as a reminder of our time here.
